Style Crush: Style Elixir!

July 17, 2013

It’s been awhile since we’ve had a Style Crush on the blog. I’m happy to be bringin’ it back, cuz by golly there’s just SO much good style out there in the big, bad blogosphere. Today’s Style Crush is a favorite of mine. Lauren and I worked on this cool Giveaway together (there will be more where that came from!) and immediately became blogging buddies. She’s lovely inside and out, and of course – she got killer fashion sense. Which is why Lauren of ‘Style Elixir‘ is today’s…

Style Crush!

Read on for her best fashion and blogging tips!

p.s. Be sure to come on back tomorrow for a Giveaway with JEWELMINT!

Style-Crush-Style-Elixir-1 Style-Crush-Style-Elixir-4 Style-Crush-Style-Elixir-6

1. How would you describe your style?

I would say it’s feminine and polished, but with an edge. I truly believe the devil’s in the detail… so I adore little touches, a sparkle here or there, a bow, an unexpected pop of color.

2. Who are your fashion icons?

I adore Olivia Palermo, Giuliana Rancic and Lauren Conrad.  Their style is gorgeous, but it’s also fun and accessible – the kind of things we can wear in our everyday lives.

3. Where do you go for fashion inspiration?

I love reading other blogs, but as strange as it may sound, I actually get a lot of inspiration from tv.  I must confess, I do watch my share of Giuliana & Bill, Real Housewives and Kardashians, so I’m always noticing cute shoes or tops!

4. What are the top three places you shop?

It’s hard to narrow it down to only three!  I’m sure I had a mild addiction to Shopbop at one stage, but also love Nordstrom, J.Crew and Piperlime.

5. What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a flash?

I seem to reach for skinny jeans, a white top, statement necklace or my favorite leopard print scarf, a tailored blazer and patent black almond toe pumps.

6.  Do you follow trends?  If so, what trends excite you at the moment?

Yes and no.  I do like to see what’s trending, but I don’t follow it explicitly.   I think it’s great to be inspired by trends, but it’s important to make them your own and know what suits your body.  At the moment, I love the bright colors and metallics that are popping up everywhere. I’ve also developed an obsession with peplum, although unfortunately I think that trend is coming to an end, but I do adore it.

7.  Why is the way you look/dress important to you?

Yes, I have to say it is.  But not because I am really conscious of impressing others or keeping up with the latest styles, it’s more about feeling confident, feminine and put together for myself.  Even if I’m at home alone, I like to put on a cute pair of matching pajamas just because it makes me feel good!

8.  What fashion or styling tips would you give to women who want to improve their sense of style?

The best advice I’d give is… take the time to really understand what works for you.  As mentioned before, I don’t often follow the latest trends to a tee, I know what does and doesn’t suit my shape and I adapt to work with that.  Also, get to know which colors are best for you.  Believe it or not, I used to be quite a light blonde and since going darker, I’ve had to change the colors I wear. It makes a big difference!

And finally, when you’re trying on clothes, go with your gut.  You know when you put something on and it instantly feels perfect?  Well, that’s when you buy.  Don’t talk yourself into it – and don’t buy something thinking you’ll loose a couple pounds… I’ve done that before and I’m pretty sure the tag’s still on it! Oh and one more… always do a full 360 before leaving the house, people see you from the back too – so make sure everything’s as it should be!

9.  What made you want to start Style Elixir?

It actually all started through reading one of my favorite blogs and having a light bulb moment that “this is what I truly want to do!”  I am so passionate about it and love having the opportunity to create a real community.  I’ve absolutely adored meeting so many new people – and not just that, I’ve also made some wonderful friends.  I can’t imagine having not done this and met the people I have.  I think when you start blogging, you have no idea where it will lead or the impact it can have on your life. I continue to be amazed every day by the people and opportunities presented – I’m so grateful.

10.  What are the top three tips you’d give to bloggers wanting to build their following?

It really is all about people, so get to know your fellow bloggers!  Make an effort to take a genuine interest in others and build connections.  It makes blogging so much more enjoyable!  Find your “voice”, this takes time but it’s such an important part.  I know it can be hard when you read other blogs and feel like they are so stylish, clever and funny (Shannon, I’m looking at you!), but it’s important not to compare yourself and remain true to who you are, what you love and your views.  Everyone has something unique to contribute, so just be yourself – people will love and appreciate you for it!  And finally, be consistent.  It’s hard juggling life and everything that comes with blogging, but readers adore knowing when they come to your site there will be new content they can soak up and enjoy.

Style Crush: Sweetest Somethings!

May 9, 2013

This girl: beautiful, sweet, and stylish as can be. Get ready – I included a gazillion pics of this beauty because I just couldn’t narrow it down! Dina of fashion blog Sweetest Somethings has got STYLE peeps!  Which is why she is this week’s

Style Crush!

Check out her fashion and blogging tips below. And be sure to check out her killer blog!

Style-Crush-Sweetest-Somethings-16 Style-Crush-Sweetest-Somethings-14 Style-Crush-Sweetest-Somethings-13 Style-Crush-Sweetest-Somethings-12 Style-Crush-Sweetest-Somethings-11

1.  How would you describe your style?

My style is definitely girly and feminine, almost to a fault.  I usually find myself putting in effort to try to punk it up a bit.  I love delicate pieces with lace and ruffles, or pretty floral prints but I always try to add some edge with flat booties or a fun necklace.

2. Who are your fashion icons?

Like most women on earth I am in love with Olivia Palermo and Miranda Kerr’s street styles.  How do they always nail it every time, even when just going for coffee?! I also love everything Rachel Bilson wears, she’s just so tiny and cute.

 3. Where do you go for fashion inspiration?

I read a ton of blogs each day, I love seeing everyday girls in their everyday outfits.  I use my pinterest a lot but often find myself being old fashion and folding down pages in magazines like Vouge and People Style Watch of outfits I adore.  I also get inspired by where I’m going or things I have to do.  If I’m traveling, going to work, or have a party to attend I always try to dress based on the occasion.

 4. What are the top three places you shop?

I’m an online shopping junkie and am always ordering from Revolve Clothing, ASOS, and Shopbop.  For in person shopping I love hitting up H&M, Forever21, and LOFT.  I also love a good department store like Bloomingdale’s since they have so much variety!

 5. What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a flash?

Definitely skinny jeans, a printed top, a chambray shirt (I am obsessed with mine), and a bootie.6.  Do you follow trends?  If so, what trends excite you at the moment?

I do follow trends, although there are some I just can never seem to get on board with, there are others I love!  I am super into black & white stripes at the moment, I love peplum, and have always been into leather & neon.

7.  Why is the way you look/dress important to you?

I know it sounds silly, but I just feel SO much better when I feel good about what I’m wearing.  If I’m comfortable and feel put together I feel more ready to take on a day.  I read once that you can’t have a bad night if you love your outfit and I think that’s really true.

8.  What fashion or styling tips would you give to women who want to improve their sense of style?

I would say be comfortable, but by comfortable I don’t mean yoga pants and your husband’s t-shirt.  Find a style that your comfortable in and makes you feel good about yourself.  Don’t worry about trends or what others are wearing and just wear what you gravitate towards.  After you find what makes you the most comfortable, whether it be high waisted jeans, all black, a blazer, etc. then try adding in some trends that you think are cute.  Start small with a statement necklace or a pair of shoes you’ve been dying to try and see where it takes you.  Most importantly, don’t take it to seriously and have fun.  The most important thing is that you feel good about yourself.

9.  What made you want to start a blog?

I’ve been a long time reader of fabulous blogs (like yours Shannon!) and it always inspired me to start my own.  I love getting dressed, cooking, and trying new things so it seemed natural to share them with others.  My boyfriend encouraged me to just try it out (mainly by agreeing to be my photographer which is a HUGE help), and I figured I would just give it a go.  The response has been amazing and I love meeting new people through this and getting inspired.

10.  What are the top three tips you’d give to bloggers wanting to build their following?

1- Write what you love, and don’t worry about what everyone else is writing about.  If 1,000 bloggers are covering fashion week you don’t need to be the 1,001 person unless you want to.

2- Connect with others through social media and comments.  If you see something on a blog you love REACH out.  9 times out of 10 I’ve gotten great responses from people and they really appreciate it.

3- PIN your images to pinterest.  I can’t tell you how many blogs I’ve found through clicking on a pretty image.

11.  Anything further you’d like to add?

Thank you Shannon for featuring me!  I’ve found so many blogs through your style crush award and am excited to be joining the team.

Style Crush: Hello Fashion

April 25, 2013

Oh who is that breath-taking beauty with the killer style, you ask? Well allow me to introduce you! Christine has been a Style Crush of mine for a hot minute now. I came across her blog Hello Fashion long ago and was instantly smitten. Not only does she have a unique, signature style – she also owns her own shop! Ily Couture features amaze-balls jewelry, purses, and apparel that will knock your socks off. Which is why Christine of Hello Fashion is this week’s

Style Crush!

Learn from her wisdom by reading her interview below.

1.  How would you describe your style?
I wouldn’t really say I have a set style. Honestly I love it all. It really just depends on my mood. Some days I feel girly and glam, and other days I feel rugged and head for my ripped jeans and oversized tees.

2. Who are your fashion icons?

I don’t know if I would say I have a fashion icon… my favorite blogger hands down is Sincerely Jules, her style is amazing.

 3. Where do you go for fashion inspiration?

Pinterest, blogs, magazines, walking around the streets, I feel like their is inspiration everywhere.

 4. What are the top three places you shop?

Shoes. Zappos & Nordstroms.
Clothes. Forever 21, J. Crew, Sax, Target
Accessories. ILY, Michael Kors

 5. What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a flash?

Depends on where I’m heading, but my boyfriend jeans are probably what I wear most. I can dress them up with heels and a blouse if I need something a little more dressy – or  throw on a hoodie and some wedge sneakers if I’m just running to meet a friend.
6.  Do you follow trends?  If so, what trends excite you at the moment?
I love seeing what’s trending, and trying new things. I am obsessed with aztec right now, it’s more of an older trend but I love it. Also been trying to find the perfect clear bag. I love the see through purses and totes I have seeing in magazines, swooning over a little Marc Jacobs number right now.
7.  Why is the way you look/dress important to you?
I think it’s important to feel good about yourself because confidence effects so many areas of your life, but I think you can feel good about yourself in more ways than clothes and how you dress. I love fashion, and its become a part of my daily life, but I definitely think there are more important things in the scheme of life.
8.  What fashion or styling tips would you give to women who want to improve their sense of style?
You don’t have to spend a bunch of money to improve your look. Lipsticks are easy way to change up an outfit. Bright Pinks are great for Spring/Summer. Invest in quality over quantity. Shop sales! Sign up for sale alerts from your favorite brands, and don’t forget about price adjustments. I almost always get $ back from J. Crew because there stuff always goes on sale.
9.  What made you want to start a blog?
I have just always loved deign and fashion. One of my best friends kept telling me I needed to start a blog, so I jumped on the bag wagon and gave it try. Really love doing it now.
10.  What are the top three tips you’d give to bloggers wanting to build their following?
* Post everyday – I really wish I could do this. Blogging is like a full time job, unfortunately I work over 40 hours a week at my other job, so I don’t get to post as much as I wish, but it really makes a difference when you do.
* Get Google Analytics – if you want to work with brands you need to know your stats. Collaborating with brands and other bloggers helps gain exposure.
* Pictures! I used to take mirror pictures because, well,  it was easy. I started asking my husband to help me, and I noticed I started getting more comments on those pictures so I just transitioned. As the blog has grown it has allowed me to invest in a better camera and lens, but even if you can’t afford that right away have a friend or family shoot your pictures. It makes a difference!

Style Crush: The Sequined Spaniel!

April 10, 2013

A hilarious blogger with cutie-patootie style? Hmmmm… that sounds right up my alley! I mean, hello – the name of this fashionista’s blog is The Sequined Spaniel – how can we not be completely infatuated? Oh – turns out WE ARE. Which is why Amanda is this week’s

Style Crush!

Read below for her tips on fashion and blogging. And then go follow her dang blog. Hollah!

sequined-spaniel-2 sequined-spaniel-1

1.      How would you describe your style?

I never thought this question would be so hard to answer! I would say my personal style blends classic and modern with a girly, colorful twist. And to quote my husband’s answer when I asked for his thoughts: shiny!

2.      Who are your fashion icons?

I’d love to say Blake Lively or Olivia Palermo because they always look amazing, but I wouldn’t necessarily say they’re my “icons.” Celebrity fashion just really isn’t my thing. I don’t have a personal stylist or millions of dollars, so I find it to be irrelevant. My fashion icons are real women that I can relate to.

3.      Where do you go for fashion inspiration?

I most often draw inspiration from Pinterest and my blogroll, but I also really like magazines that feature affordable fashion, like Lucky and People Style Watch. While it’s fun to look at fashion blogs with designer clothing and high fashion magazines like Vogue, I think it’s important to focus on finding inspiration in more realistic outlets.

4.      What are the top three places you shop?

The top three places I wish I could shop: J. Crew, Lilly Pulitzer, kate spade

The top three places I actually shop: J. Crew (lower priced pieces and sale section) Target, and eBay

5.      What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a flash?

Skinny jeans, my favorite polka dot blouse, espadrille wedges and statement jewelry. Another spring favorite is colored denim, striped t-shirt, a blazer/cardigan, ballerina flats, and long, layered necklaces. In the summer, I love throwing on a maxi skirt, plain t-shirt, jeweled sandals, a neon crossbody bag, and a no-fuss top knot!

6.      Do you follow trends?  If so, what trends excite you at the moment?

My current favorites are peplum, metallic accents, neon colors, top knots, captoe shoes, and bold colored/printed pants!

7.      Why is the way you look/dress important to you?

I truly feel my best when I look my best. I like feeling pretty, which translates to feeling confident and cheerful. For me, that means curly hair, a flattering, feminine outfit, a pair of high heels, and a smile topped off with pink lipstick!

8.      What fashion or styling tips would you give to women who want to improve their sense of style?

Accessorize! Accessories can magically transform any outfit. Even jeans and a t-shirt can be chic when you add interest with wedge sandals, a bright crossbody bag, a skinny belt, an armful of bangles, a statement necklace and cat-eye sunglasses!

9.      What made you want to start a blog?

I began reading fashion blogs several years ago and was instantly hooked. I love fashion and shopping, and I also love to read, so it became a natural part of my life. But I never dreamed I would actually have my own. I guess I just never thought I could. All the blogs I read were highly successful, and I think I was a little intimidated by those standards. My husband kept encouraging me and finally convinced me to start my own, and I couldn’t be happier that he did!

10.  What are the top three tips you’d give to bloggers wanting to build their following?

I have only been blogging for a little over three months, so I definitely don’t have it all figured out! Three things I have learned so far:

a) Be consistent with your posts. Decide how often you want to publish new posts and do your best to stick to it. I would advise 3 per week at minimum; I strive for 5 per week. People want to follow blogs that consistently share new material.

b) Spell check! Use correct grammar! Nothing bugs me more than reading a blog with bad writing.

c) Network, network, network! Reach out to other bloggers. Advertise on blogs similar to yours. Participate in giveaways. Comment on blogs you admire. Join blogging organizations. Utilize social media.

11.  Anything further you’d like to add?

I’m a long-time follower of GBO Fashion, and it’s such an honor to be featured as a Style Crush! A HUGE thank you to Shannon—your killer style and hilarious sense of humor makes your blog truly fresh and unique, and I’m so happy to be a small part of GBO Fashion!

Style Crush: Shannon Hearts

April 3, 2013

What do Shannon of Shannon Hearts and I have in common? We both have brown eyes. And husbands. And fashion blogs. That’s it.  Ohhh wait – we also have the same name! (durrrrrrf)

But it turns out that’s not even the BIGGEST reason why I fell for this girl.  Mostly it was because she’s HOT (I’m shallow) and because her blog kicks major fashion trash.  Most of all, she’s a major sweetheart.  And as we all know, a beautiful heart makes a beautiful girl (I’m not actually shallow. kind of.). It doesn’t hurt when she dresses like a regular Rachel Zoe either. Which is why Shannon of Shannon Hearts is this week’s

Style Crush!

Read on for all of her killer insights on style, blogging, and fashion.

style-crush-shannons-hearts-4style-crush-shannons-hearts-6 style-crush-shannons-hearts-8

1.  How would you describe your style?
My style is natural, girly and uncomplicated. I am drawn to feminine clothing, and I am a sucker for florals, pastels and lace.

2. Who are your fashion icons?
I love girls who look effortless and natural. My fashion icons are Lauren Conrad, Jessica Alba and Kate Beckinsale.

 3. Where do you go for fashion inspiration?
I am borderline obsessed with fashion magazines. It’s my weekend treat to relax and read my favorites from cover to cover. Of course, I also love to look at fashion blogs and I find so much inspiration from my fellow bloggers.

 4. What are the top three places you shop?
Nordstrom, Anthropologie, and Madewell.

 5. What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a flash?
Striped maxi dress, scarf and sandals.

6.  Do you follow trends?  If so, what trends excite you at the moment?
Of course I love to follow trends, so long as they fall in line with my personal style. I won’t wear a trend if I think it’s unflattering or just plain ugly. Right now I’m loving the black and white trend, and also am completely in love with all the spring pastels.

7.  Why is the way you look/dress important to you?
More than anything I just want to feel good. Putting on something pretty and doing my hair and make-up makes me feel great. It gives me confidence and puts me in a good mood.

8.  What fashion or styling tips would you give to women who want to improve their sense of style?
What I’ve learned over the years is that it’s important to invest in some classic pieces, that you will wear for years and years and will never go out of style. Going for more expensive purchases that fit you beautifully and are nice quality are worthwhile investments. They will look great on you and will be versatile in your wardrobe. Go for less expensive purchases for trendy pieces that will go out of style quickly.

9.  What made you want to start a blog?
I love fashion and style, and I thought a blog would be a fun way to meet people who are inspired by the same things. I love the blogging community and I have met the most amazingly talented and creative people through blogging.
10.  What are the top three tips you’d give to bloggers wanting to build their following?
Sponsor blogs you love. This is such a great way to get your name out to new readers and to gain visibility to your blog. 2) Make connections. If people comment on your blog, go and visit their blog and say hi. It’s such a great way to connect with other bloggers and build your following. 3) Be social and use social media. Share your posts on social media channels, such as facebook and twitter to spread the word and find new connections.

11.  Anything further you’d like to add? Thank you so much for having me. It’s been such a pleasure!

Style Crush: Coffee Beans & Bobby Pins!

March 6, 2013

Homegirl has got style, charm, an adorable blog, and on top of it all she is sugary sweet! Which is why Amy of Coffee Beans & Bobby Pins is this week’s

Style Crush!

How would you describe your style?

Sporadic. I have always loved clothing/accessories. Although we’ve all had those “I have nothing to wear” moments, getting dressed is such a fun way to determine who you’ll be for the day or night. Although I gravitate more towards classic/feminine looks, sometimes it’s so fun to try on a new style like rock, tomboyish, or boho for the night.

Who are your fashion icons?

I love Lauren Conrad, everything she puts on seems so wearable and real. Olivia Palermo is another gal with some great threads, and of course, who can forget the classic like Jackie O or Audrey?

Where do you go for fashion inspiration?

Honestly, I love looking at magazines and celebrities for inspiration, but the true places I turn to are Pinterest or my blogroll. I love seeing how different women wear the same or similar pieces that are actually affordable for us non-celebs. That’s the great thing about blogging- everyone is such an inspiration whether they realize it or not.

What are the top three places you shop?

My favorite store is by far J.Crew. If I had infinite closet space and money (every girls dream right?), I would stock my whole closet with their pieces. They always get it right and everything is so classic. However, for more affordable pieces, I love GAP and ASOS. Even stores like Marshalls and TJMAXX are always on my radar for unique items.

What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a flash?

Skinny jeans, my black blazer, a great structured blouse and pair of heels- no matter how many times I wear this combo, I always feel confident and put together.

Do you follow trends?  If so, what trends excite you at the moment?

I think everyone does to a certain extent. The important thing is finding the trends that work for you and your body. I never used to wear skinny jeans because I have a huge complex about my legs, but then one day, I discovered the right pair. If it’s a trend like neon last summer, I’ll try to find inexpensive items first to try them out. I never splurge on something I’m not quite sure of or that I’m confident will only be around one season. I like to save my pennies for the classics.

Why is the way you look/dress important to you?

Feeling good in your clothes doesn’t only do your body justice, but it does wonderful things for the mind. When I don’t feel confident in what I’m wearing whether it’s too revealing, tight, etc. I feel insecure about myself and then it’s reflected in my perspective for the day.

What fashion or styling tips would you give to women who want to improve their sense of style?

In my opinion, every woman needs a blazer, pair of jeans that fit well and a great pair of shoes. These are classic pieces that will never go out of style and you will get a great return on investment out of. Also, don’t worry too much about staying on trend.  It’s important to dress for yourself and no one else. Wear what makes YOU feel confident! Something you wear could always be the next big thing!

What made you want to start a blog?

My husband is a medical student and is always at the hospital or studying. I have a lot of free time to myself and I had been following blogs for about two years when I thought to myself “hey, I have lots of clothes and time, I should totes do this. I could showcase affordable looks for everyday women.”  I ran the idea by my best friend and Mr. and they were so supportive. I started about a week later.

What are the top three tips you’d give to bloggers wanting to build their following?

a. Build Relationships and network with other bloggers. Even in the short time I’ve been doing this, I feel like I’ve made some great blogging friends (Shannon included!).

b. Don’t worry about the numbers. If you love what you do (which I do!), the numbers will come because people will genuinely like to hear what you’re saying.

c. Use social media. Why? Because it’s fun to follow IG and Facebook, so why not use it to your advantage? <come follow me while you’re at it> J

Anything further you’d like to add?

I may never be the best or biggest blog out in the blogsphere, but I really love my readers and appreciate all of the kind words, thoughts, etc that they send me on a daily basis. Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins has become such a passion of mine and I just want to thank Shannon for featuring me today! What an honor!

Style Crush: Allison of Sisters in the City!

February 27, 2013

That time when a beautiful lady had a blog called Sisters in the City where she featured outfits that were tooooootally Style Crush worthy and then it turned out that this beautiful lady was beautiful on the INSIDE as well, which is my most favorite thing in all the land (cuz if you’re beautiful on the outside but NOT on the inside, you might as well be a wart faced balding bearded dwarfed hobbit with leprosy, as far as I’m concerned.). Which is why Allison of Sisters in the City is this week’s GBO Fashion

Style Crush!

el capitan 3

1.       How would you describe your style?

As a little girl, playing dress up was my absolute favorite thing and I really never grew out of it.  That kind of explains my style in a nutshell.  I love classic and feminine pieces but I absolutely love mixing things up and adding edgy or trendy items to the staples of my wardrobe.  Fashion should be fun and I love trying on different looks and different personalities.

2.      Who are your fashion icons?

I absolutely love Olivia Palermo’s style. Something about that girl is chic through and through.  She is so great about putting together looks that are all different types of styles while keeping it classy which totally fits my personality.

3.      Where do you go for fashion inspiration?

I love browsing pinterest “womens fashion” category and just looking at fashion pins from people all over the world. I always find inspiration there. I also love browsing magazines for up-coming trends.

4.      What are the top three places you shop?

H&M,  J. Crew, Forever 21

5.      What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a flash?

Basically my chambray shirt paired with just about anything.  Chambray is my best friend because it literally goes with everything and there is something so effortlessly chic about it.

6.      Do you follow trends?  If so, what trends excite you at the moment?

I love trying out new trends but my rule is to only buy inexpensive trendy items.  H&M and Forever 21 are my go-to’s to try out new and exciting things. Right now I am loving everything neon and bold patterned.

7.      Why is the way you look/dress important to you?

Feeling good in what I am wearing makes me feel like I can take on the world! I love having fun with my wardrobe and expressing myself through the way that I dress. I also think it is very important to dress for success and that the way that you dress conveys a lot about the person you are to the rest of the world so I always try to be mindful of that.

8.     What fashion or styling tips would you give to women who want to improve their sense of style?

I think the best advice is to invest in a few classic staple pieces, nice black skinnies, a classic coat or trench, a nice blouse etc and then incorporate trends that you find fun and exciting by snagging that neon printed scarf for 7 dollars or those snake skin pumps for 17 at T.J. Maxx. This gives you the best of both worlds and lets you mix and match while staying on trend.

9.      What made you want to start a blog?

Like I said before, I LOVE playing dress up and thought this would such a fun way for me to share that with the world.  I am so busy with grad school and “serious” stuff that this was a fun and creative outlet for me.

10.  What are the top three tips you’d give to bloggers wanting to build their following?

-          Network, network, network- with other bloggers and with companies. Follow and show interest in them and they will reciprocate, making a mutually beneficial partnership.

-          Go for quality over quantity. Three really good blog posts a week are much more effective than six half-baked ones.

-          Social media is your best friend. It is literally free advertising. Utilize it to the max, hashtag, pinterest etc.

11.   Anything further you’d like to add?

I just want to thank Shannon for featuring me! Talk about a stunning, sassy and unbelievably talented gal! I’m honored to be a GBO style crush!

I love… My Style Crushes!

February 13, 2013

In honor of the Week of Love, I had to give a shout out to all of the lovely bloggers who have been selected as GBO Fashion Style Crushes in the past.

The Style Crush Award is a highly prestigious honor extended to one lucky lady every week. Recipients of the award MUST have amaze-balls style (obvi), BUT – there’s a little more to it than that.

All these beauties were chosen as Style Crushes not only because of their killer style, but because they are also wonderful human beings. These are the types of bloggers who email you back; Who are personable and warm and friendly – so much so that genuine friendships are formed all via cyber space.  They’re the types who are open and generous, always willing to help. They are supportive and encouraging. Above all, they are kind. These gals make me glad that I started a blog in the first place, by which I have the privilege of calling them friends.

Be sure to check out each of their blogs and fab style to get a glimpse of why I am obsessed with them. Happy Valentine’s Day Ladies! Turns out I love you long time.

Style Crush: Taylor Swift

January 30, 2013

Confession: I. Heart. Taylor Swift.

Yep – that’s the truth.  And I don’t curr who knows it! Say what you will about T. Swift – in MY humble opin, she’s one of the few gals (and by few I mean only) in the music industry who seems to be at least mildly wholesome.  And sure – she’s no Mariah Carey. BUT, her songs are adorable and I don’t even hate the way she sounds singin’ them. AND, on top of it all, she has killer style. Which is why Taylor Swift is today’s

Style Crush!

Reasons why we dig T. Swift’s style: she rocks the retro vintage look like she invented it. The oxfords, the 50′s inspired dresses, the old school Ray Bans, the cross-body bags, the red lipstick – ALL of it. I just can’t get enough. And I love that she’s so consistent. Home girl knows what works for her, knows what she likes, and so she sticks with it.  I for one, am not even mad about it.

So what do YOU think? Are you a fan of Taylor Swift’s style? Or are you a Hatin’ Henrietta? Fill me in!

Have a Whimsical Wednesday!
